Plimsoll, Samuel
(10 feb. 1824, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Inglaterra–3 jun. 1898, Folkestone, Kent).

Reformador británico. Comerciante de carbón en Londres y parlamentario (1868–80). Con su libro Our Seamen [Nuestros marinos] (1873), ayudó a vencer las resistencias a la ley de la marina mercante, que estableció reformas como el límite de carga para las naves. Se marcó una línea de carga (la marca de Plimsoll) en el casco de cada nave de carga, para indicar el calado máximo hasta el cual podía cargarse la nave con seguridad.
